How Slick are my Boards

How to measure the slickness of a Cornhole Board

You can measure cornhole board slickness byusing a simple test with a cornhole bag and a measuring tape.Place a cornhole bag on the top left corner of the board, then slowly lift the back of the board from its 12-inch height.Measure how high you have to lift the board before the bag begins to slide, which can range from a few inches to much higher depending on the board's surface. The ideal slide range is typically between 16 and 26 inches for new bags and 18 and 28 inches for used bags, though this can vary.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Set up the cornhole board. Ensure the back of the board is at its standard 12-inch height.
  2. Place a 1lb canvas (duck cloth) cornhole bag at the top left corner of the board. Pat the bag down firmly with your palm to make sure it's flat and in full contact with the board, with no overhang.
  3. Open the measuring tape and place it next to the back of the board, with the zero mark on the ground.
  4. Slowly and steadily lift the back of the board. As you lift, the bag will start to slide down the board.
  5. Watch the measuring tape and note the measurement where the bag first starts to slide. This is the slickness rating for that board.
  6. Repeat the test a couple of times to ensure accuracy.

Interpreting your results

  • Very slick: The bag slides before 16 inches (new bags) or 18 inches (used bags).
  • Ideal slickness: The bag slides between 16 to 26 inches (new bags) or 18 to 28 inches (used bags).
  • Sticky: The bag slides after 26 inches (new bags) or 28 inches (used bags).
  • Too sticky: The bag doesn't move at all, or it slides only after lifting the board more than 30 inches.

Note: using low quality non-canvas bags will not accurately measure the
slickness of the boards.
